Texas School District Reportedly Threatening Students Who Refuse Tracking ID, Can’t Vote For Homecoming

ACTION ALERT: Principals have announced that the RFID pilot program goes into strict enforcement TOMORROW, October 10th 2012. Any student who refuses to comply will face “consequences,” according to the principal.
What are those “consequences?” Call and ask!

Weeks after Northside Independent School District in San Antonio rolled out its new “smart” IDs that tracks students’ geographic locations, the community is still at odds with the program.

The “Student Locator Project,” which is slated to eventually reach 112 Texas schools and close to 100,000 students, is in trial stages in two Northside district schools. In an effort to reduce truancy, the district has issued new student IDs with an embedded radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip that tracks the location of a student at all times.

The program officially launched October 1 at John Jay High School and Anson Jones Middle School. Without the badges — required to be worn around the neck — students cannot access common areas like the cafeteria or library, and cannot purchase tickets to extracurricular activities. WND reports that the district hasthreatened to suspend, fine or involuntarily transfer students who fail to comply and officials have noted that “there will be consequences for refusal to wear an ID card as we begin to move forward with full implementation.”

Parents and students from the schools spoke out against the project last month. But now, WND is reporting that schools are taking the restrictions one step further.

John Jay High School sophomore Andrea Hernandez refuses to use the new IDs, citing religious beliefs and instead sticking with her old badge from previous years, calling the tracking devices the “mark of the beast.” She tells Salon that the new badges make her uncomfortable and are an invasion of her privacy.

But to add to her restricted school grounds access, the teen says she was barred from voting for homecoming king and queen.

“I had a teacher tell me I would not be allowed to vote because I did not have the proper voter ID,” she told WND. “I had my old student ID card which they originally told us would be good for the entire four years we were in school. He said I needed the new ID with the chip in order to vote.”

If successful, the tracking program could save the district as much as $175,000 lost daily to low attendance figures, which in part determine school funding. Higher attendance could lead to more state funding in the neighborhood of $1.7 million. A statement on the school district’s website lays out the program’s goals: to increase student safety and security, increase attendance and offer a multi-purpose “smart” student ID card that streamlines grounds access and purchasing power.

While uncommon, RFID chips are not new to school IDs, according to Wired. Schools in Houston launched a monitoring program as early as 2004, and a federally funded preschool in California started placing RFID chips in children’s clothes two years ago. Numerous districts have also considered similar programs, but without making them mandatory.

In California, the Anaheim Union High School District is also in the midst of testing a GPS tracking program. From Salon:

It looks like school district administrators are more concerned with money than education. Perhaps it’s time for the taxpayers in the district to replace their school board and school district administrators. By cutting the number of administrators and their bloated salaries, they can save enough money to offset the alleged loss of state funding due to low attendance.

  2. RON Maestas says:

Mr. Gonzalez and his board seem to placing $’s into the district coffers as the prime directive. Where did the funding for this program come from? John Jay is at the low end of the socioeconomic strata in NSISD. Why not start this experiment at Clark? Me thinks that the blowback from the upper crust of the District might singe the little hair left on Mr G’s head. Fellow citizens / taxpayers of NSISD, where is the independent study information indicating the short and long term effects of RFID chips in close proximity to the bodies of adolescent young people. Does anyone else smell a lawsuit upwind? More tax money going to lawers and for how long? The court injunction stopping this program WILL BE ordered within hours if if this young girl is reprimanded by the district. And who is handed the bill when judgment is rendered in favor of the rights of the student? Mr Gonzalez, are you going to pay that judgment? Likely not, but you will be held accountable. What a waste of time and money.

No problem with ID cards, but tracking devices for people who are not criminals, is something else entirely. AND, truancy is criminal; though, I guess, not illegal. As for the “mark of the beast”, this is not a physical mark — it is a mark in the mind of people who follow satan (the beast); even those who pretend to follow God, if they have Satan in their mind, they carry the mark of the beast.

    • Scott says:

Where do you get that from? It’s certainly not Biblical. How do you get a mark in your mind (or soul) “In the right hand or forehead”? That sounds pretty physical to me.

  4. M-M. K. Asenbauer says:

It is one thing for a family to use this technology for the safety of an at risk adult or child, but it is quit another matter when use is FORCED on the non-criminal public. The creepy factor just goes through the roof!

  5. Mark Fritz says:

I have one suggestion to improve attendance without the need for these tags. Hire people that make education an interesting event to keep the kids involved. Rather than boring them to death and treating them like prisoners in concentration camps, (get rid of the corrupt supervisors also).

    • Mary Cummings says:

YES!!! Why is it so hard to figure out a REAL solution to the truancy problem?? WHy are more people not outraged about this? I am appalled! NOT a way to motivvate and value our kids!

    • Christy says:

Exactly what I was going to say, Mark. Most teachers anymore just read to the kids or simply assign reading/homework and there’s not much interaction. This whole idea is ridiculous! Make it so the kids WANT to come to learn and expand their imaginations. Why don’t they try actually TEACHING?

    • RachaelB says:

Exactly! That was my feeling, too. :) The tracking programs won’t deal with the root cause of the problems. They need to improve the school experience and find out WHY kids want to escape so badly…why kids are miserable (and I know why, because I remember being miserable in school) and work to correct the problems! Start treating kids like human beings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Svalle says:

The government is not here to educate our kids. they are creating a world of zombies so they can control. Society itseldf has become a zombie nation. This it what has been prophized, we are the zombies thinking that government will take care of us. If you saw the debate the other night were Mitt explains a solution to are schools starts at home with parents and how they are raised. Were as Obama explain we need to focus on education and how we need to give them more funds. This is not the solution. Remeber POWER is Knowledge and the government does not want this, they want more control and they can succed by keeping us zombified and then tag us!!! Say no and lets Stop this.

UNITED WE STAND!! divided we fall….

I want to see this invasive and abusive technology outlawed for use on children, students, and the general public for numerous reasons, including too much electro-smog pollution to the bodies of children, whose immune systems are still attempting to develop under too much stress (see the research & work of Dr. Ibrahim Karim, of Cairo, Egypt for his development of biogeometry). Our children should not feel or be threatened by public education, educators or school boards; I hope that parents will send up mighty opposition to these outrageous demands.

The upcoming generations of children will never have the chance to live with the freedoms we had in the not too distant past. Their well-being, cataloging of hand prints, finger prints and other private physical characteristics that are unique to each individual, supplies the government with way too much information. I have no doubt at all that our government intends to keep this data for more specific tracking agendas in the future.

I truly hope that parents and the public will raise enough outcry, protest, and legal battle, that such intrusive measures will be stopped.

  7. jennie says:

I don’t have chidren, but this should concern everybody. This is so chillingly evil. It is a physical danger to the children by exposing them to radiation and ultimately cancer and also to predators who wil be able to track them. Of course the agenda here is to be able to track everyone and enslave us all – the New World Order. Let’s do all we can to stop them in their tracks.

  8. Ken says:

What a bunch of crap, Did you ever skip school or a class and not have the teacher know?
they sure don’t need to spend our tax dollars on this, It’s the same as an ankle bracelet when your under house arrest!!Also a good way for pedafiles to track your kids!

  9. DEBBIE says:

This is ridiculous!!! Kids do not need this kind of treatment – in fact, if the principal’s would start checking their teacher’s to see what kind of work they do (instead of giving a lesson and then running down to the teacher’s room for an hour and gossiping)!!!!! This is the way the Bible said it would come in…slowly and slyly…..start with our kids first and then work up to the adults…you darn tootin’ we’re going to fight….teach your kids, grandkids, ggrandchildren NOT to accept chips, marks, tattoo’s from anyone….that is why i don’t have a cell phone….do you people know what else they have put on the chip that is inside the phone….check it out….You go Texas Kids….Show’em what your made of and tell’em what to do with it….we as a nation will back you up!!!!

  10. Im so tired of being pushed around by our govt especially our Texas school districts. Ive lived in s.a.i.s.d & now in n.e.i.s.d. i’ll tell ya they are pushy & will without a second thought threaten you incarceration! Of course there are several events that lead up to that, like for example: the new ”vaccine” that was forced on us religious beliefs or not. I had no idea menegitis(spelling?) was so rampant that they 1. dont allow ur child to enroll in to nesid. 2. if child is enrolled they wont be permitted to return 2 school until the shot is taken with proof. 3. child will be ”dropped” after a certain period lapse. 4. after child is dropped parent is sent ”truency” letters warning about ”contributing” 2 ur childs absences. 5. sum 1 shows up @ ur hm to threaten ur to take the shot, ”or else”. 6. parents are served with court appearence re: absences & vaccine and how by u not compling u are now”inhibiting” ur childs education and they care soooo much about thier learnin that they hav 2 intervien?! Teachers hav physically & emotionally abused my kids in diffrent schools in BOTH DISTRICTS SAISD & NEISD! When reported in ALL cases it was just dismissed by saying ”they would handle the prob internally”! My child stiil remembers the bruising on his little arms. The MAJORITY OF TEACHERS hav a ”chip” on thier shoulder, bitter, mean, yell @ the kids regularly(evn infront of parents), Every tiny thing set them off! You cell camera is ur best friend when trying to prove this!! so keep ur cameras handy @ school, it can save ur childs life!

I’m an elderly person that never really gets involved with things like this , but this girl has sprit and knows when there’s something wrong with the system. I can’t belive folks are just standing by and letting this happen to her. If I lived in that community, I would be doing something every day to help support her cause.
Even though I’m an old man, I can tell that this chip thing smells to high heaven.I’m not some type of religious fanatic, but even a blind man caould see where this is all comming from. Good for you sweatheart keep up the good work and I’ll be doing whatever I can do to support you’re cause.
